ABSTRACT

It is well known that the Covid-19 that hit the world caused a global economic crisis. This present study aimed at examining the economic impact of this crisis with respect to families with both quantitative and qualitative approaches. In this study, we intended to demonstrate how families (n=247) met their basic needs, how they coped with financial stress, how financial stress relates to family characteristics and how it affects marital, family, and life satisfaction. The impact of family characteristics on financial stress was examined through regression analysis. The impact of financial stress on marital, family, and life satisfaction was determined through content analysis. The results of the regression analysis showed that the influence of education, debt, minimum wage employment, and fear of being laid off on financial stress was significant. The qualitative results show that individuals' marital, family and life satisfaction were negatively affected due to the financial stress they experienced during the Covid-19. ABSTRACT

Alternate :Purpose: This study aims to determine the home accident rates of children aged 0-6 between the dates of 11 March 2020 and 13 July 2021, when the epidemic started to appear in our country, to reveal some individual and familial characteristics of parents regarding the epidemic period, to collect information on home accidents and prevention of accidents in various socio-demographic forms. Method: The study group of the research consists of 540 parents living in Turkey, all children in the 0-6 age group, working from home or with a flexible working system during the Covid-19 epidemic, and voluntarily accepting to participate in the research. The research data were collected using the "Socio-demographic Information Form" prepared by the researchers and the "Scale for Diagnosing Safety Measures for Home Accidents of Mothers with 0-6 Age Group Children" developed by Çınar and Görak (2003). Findings: The rate of children aged 0-6 having a home accident during the epidemic was found to be 24.8%. The mean score of the parents' scale for diagnosing safety measures for home accidents was determined above the medium level. It was concluded that women and men, and those who stated that their child/s did not have a home accident during the Covid-19 epidemic had higher scores from the scale than those who stated that they had a home accident (p<0.01, p<0.001). In addition, it was determined that 12.7% of 0-6 age group children (n=134) who had an accident during the Covid-19 epidemic period had a home accident when their mother or father was diagnosed with Covid-19. The findings were discussed within the framework of the current epidemic period and pre-epidemic studies in the literature, and suggestions were made to individuals, relevant institutions and organizations in order to prevent home ccidents that may occur in children during the epidemic period. Originality: Since there are few academic studies on the subject during the epidemic period, it is thought that this study will contribute to the field by filling the gap in the literature and lead similar studies to be made on the subject.
